The Wonders of Having a Good Dog Name

The Wonders of Having a Good Dog Name

Having a good dog name is like having a helping hand with your new companion. The dog may be man’s best friend, but remember, having a new animal in the house means also having another responsibility, and with that you need obedience. With obedience, well, you need a lot of patience and of course, a good name. How do you assign a good name to a dog without having too many headaches? For one, if you are thinking of calling your dog Nostradamus or Gatling Gun, then you might want to reconsider already. Those names fall under the “no-no” or “never ever” category for dog names, unless you really are willing to train your dog for a longer time period. And that is just for the name. How about the other things that your new pal needs to remember, like sitting, standing and fetching things?

All the activities between humans and dogs are interfaced with one and the same thing: commands. Commands form the bond and hierarchy between masters and dogs, and because of this, you will need to assign a name that would be remembered by the animal first. Having names that are too long may cause confusion in the animal- which is the reason you must not assign complex names to dogs. What constitutes a good name anyway? Believe it or not, dogs work best with names that only have one or two syllables- and these names must, in a way, be explosive. Like Bot or Ror. With one syllable names, you ca easily extend the phonetic quality to suit your mood and your command, much like the same way that we adjust the way we talk in accord with different situations in life.

Because of this, you must remember that before you start pelting the animal with commands that requires more mental effort on his part, lay down the name cards first. And make sure that the dog knows that it is his name and not some random sound that you simply mutter in his or her presence. And if you are wondering what particular age is good for teaching names, at three months a dog will already respond to such communication- and if you do it right, the name will be for life. The dog will not respond to other names, and the name would be crucial to everyone.
